The slender, whitish stem also stains blue-green and has fine vertical lines and a mealy upper portion. They have moderately close, pale brown to violet-brown gills that are adnate or adnexed, and the overall flesh is whitish and stains blue-green. Cap: Shape: Starts conical, then becomes convex, often with a slight upturn or a small central bump (umbo). Color: Yellow-brown to orange-brown, paler near the edges, which may have faint, wavy lines (striate). Texture: Slightly sticky (tacky). Veil: May show remnants of a white veil when young. Staining: Stains greenish blue with age or when touched. Gills: Color: Pale smoky brown when young, changing to violet-brown or a brownish fuscous color as they age.
